Asian Games: Saurabh Chaudhary wins India's first shooting gold

India bagged 5 more medals at the Asian Games, three of them in shooting. Debutant teenager Saurabh Chaudhary (16) clinched India's first shooting gold of the 18th Asian Games 2018 (Jakarta, Palembang, Indonesia) in men's 10m air pistol , collecting a Games record score of 240.7. It was India's third gold medal of the Games. Another shooter Abhishek Verma settled for a bronze in the same event. In the Men's 50-metres Rifle 3 Positions event, Sanjeev Rajput won a Silver. That meant India bagged one gold, one silver and one bronze from the shooting ranges for the day to add to the two silver and one bronze India won in shooting on Monday. Indian wrestler Divya Kakran claimed bronze in women's 68 kg freestyle event. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated all of them for their feat. Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore also congratulated Saurabh Chaudhary and Abhishek Verma.

Saurabh Chaudhary hails from Kalinga village in Meerut. It was his first competition at the senior level. He did have appearances and medal at the Junior and Youth competitions, including a gold medal at the ISSF Junior World Cup in Suhl, Germany this year. Last December, he won the Asian Youth Olympics qualification with a junior world record total and bagged a place in the 2018 Youth Olympics to be held in Buenos Aires in October.
