Scientists discovered novobiocin compound as anti-Zika drug

Researchers belonging to Bioinformatics and High-Performance Computing research group from the San Antonio Catholic University of Murcia, a southeastern Spanish university, has announced the discovery of a molecule that could be used as a potential drug to fight the effects of a Zika virus infection.

They reported that a compound previously used as an antibiotic countered the symptoms of the mosquito-borne disease. The teams of scientists have now patented the molecule as an anti-Zika treatment.
